#0393 Before the Ask

The amount of energy to get there is enormous.

You have spent weeks, maybe months nurturing the relationship super generous along the way.

Finally the opportunity arises, the timing is right so you hit them up.

What comes out however is a jumble of words that makes perfect sense in your head but leaves the audience unsatisfied and really no better off.

You leave thinking you nailed it but the decision does not go your way.

Scared like the rejected teen asking their crush to the dance not knowing what went wrong.

Whilst the ask itself is important, we underestimate the exchange of information both in content and order leaving holes in the understanding. Holes which are filled with misinformation and assumptions to close the gaps.

Persuasive communication is a process like anything else and a skill to be mastered, a gift that keeps on giving.
