#0659 The Cost of Email

When someone sends you an email, is it reasonable to expect a response within a day if not hours.

I am conflicted on this one. Yes is my immediate reaction especially if the email is from a client, supplier, partner or the like.

It becomes more grey when they are not any of these close relations.

Reply or not each take time to evaluate, respond, delay or discard.

Time imposed on you. Most people I ask are slaves to the inbox.

Doing email in batches a couple of times a day helps reduce the switching cost flicking between what you are doing and checking email.

The email ping can be a significant drain on time, control the addiction of checking it relentlessly.
