My Father would tuck me in super tight when I was 6 or so and sometimes I would claim that I could not get to sleep.
He would say in his thick Southern Italian Australian accent “Son, think of your toes”
Even at that age I would think, is my father some sort of meditation guru?
For years whenever I struggled to sleep I would think of my toes and invariably fall asleep.
It was not until my late teens I confronted him about his advice and with a look of confusion he said;
“Toes, I never say toes, I said toys!!!”
I was reminded of this recently when I was asked about clarity in communication.
Keep it simple and importantly, ensure it is clear and understood.
